Design

In the design department chief designer Antje Zahl determines the layout of the designs. After having completed her training as toy specialist, Mrs. Zahl went on to study toy design and came out with a diploma.

Thanks to her comprehensive training Mrs. Zahl is able to respond to even the most difficult of customer requests. Designs in the form of water colour paintings are often worked with at first so as to harmonise the initial ideas of the customer with creative possibilities.

Among the tasks of the Design and Development department are also one-off productions and the manufacture of costumes, the so-called Walking Acts.

In the illustration, technologist Renate Ermel is covering the head of such a costume, a frog in this case.

The larger-than-life head is obtained using a metallic mould, which is then laminated and covered with material. The body, feet and gloves are usually worked on as separate parts, in order to enable flexible use.
